How to incorporate round lamps into your interior design?

Most interiors start with straight lines. Walls define boundaries, furniture organises the space, and built-in units follow right angles. This is natural – architecture is based on geometry, which makes an interior clear and functional.   But today, interior design is increasingly showing a shift towards curves. They are appearing in furniture, mirrors, headboards and kitchen islands. Sharp edges are giving way to soft lines, and spaces are becoming more welcoming and ‘human’, less formulaic.    In this context, round lamps play a special role. How do they work within an interior, and how should they be arranged? We sought answers in a conversation with Wiktoria Morawska from the Design Lab department at Nowodvorski Lighting.

A circle that works its magic from behind the wall

Sometimes a single element is enough to change the way we perceive an entire interior. In the case of ring-style wall lights, the light is key; thanks to the bulb being set back, it spreads softly around the wall. This means that the wall itself ceases to be merely a backdrop — it begins to help create the atmosphere.

In the Timber LED and Sunset LED collections, the material plays a key role. Plywood with a natural grain, stained in shades of brown, has been paired with a black metal frame. This combination means the lamps suit both modern interiors and boho-style schemes.

During the day, they catch the eye with their form and texture, serving as decoration. In the evening, they take on the role of setting the mood.

“The material is of immense importance here. Wood softens the harshness of concrete, warms up cool colours and ties the décor together. It’s an element that genuinely influences how the entire space is perceived. Proportion is also key. A carefully chosen diameter ensures the lamp looks natural and becomes part of the décor,” – says Wiktoria.

When light defines the centre

Above the table, everything becomes clearer. This is where the household’s life is centred – conversations, gatherings, daily rituals. A round lamp suspended in this area naturally defines the centre and brings order to the composition of the entire interior.

The Fourty Round model clearly illustrates just how important the diameter of the light fitting is. A form that is too small will disappear into the space, whilst one that is too large will begin to dominate and visually weigh down the interior.

The Fourty Round lamp builds on the minimalist, modern character of the Fourty series, this time in a rounded form. The collection includes pendant lamps and ceiling lights available in two sizes, making it easy to adapt them to both smaller rooms and spacious, open-plan living areas. The lights are fitted with adjustable tubes that allow for precise adjustment of the light’s direction to suit the interior’s function.

“Choosing the diameter is a compositional decision, not just a technical one,” emphasises the expert. “It affects how we feel at the table and how we perceive the proportions of the entire room.”

Composition in an open-plan space

In open-plan living areas, lighting is of particular importance. It organises functions, guides the eye and unifies the space of the living room, kitchen and dining room. Rather than a single central light source, a well-thought-out composition – with lighting tailored to individual zones – works better.

Models from the Circolo Power LED range emit up to 2.5 times more light than the standard versions, making them ideal as the main lighting in an open-plan interior.

“The Circolo LED collection offers great flexibility in this regard. The circle can serve as a striking accent above the table, but it can also be repeated in other parts of the space, emphasising cohesion. Different diameters and numbers of rings allow you to vary the scale – from subtle to more expressive,” notes Wiktoria.

Textile softness

The trend for rounded shapes doesn’t stop at furniture. The soft lines of sofas and armchairs are increasingly complemented by fabrics that bring visual warmth. In lighting, lampshades play a similar role – light, round and gently diffusing the light.

Each of these lamps has been designed with subtle elegance in mind: stylish lampshades, distinctive diffusers and refined details mean they are perfectly suited to modern-classic schemes, whilst in minimalist interiors they will catch the eye as unique decorative accents.

“The Santana, Amarela, Lago, Cedro and Turda models demonstrate how light works when enclosed in a fabric shade. Rather than casting sharp contours, it gently fills the space and creates a calm backdrop. This effect promotes a sense of tranquillity, which is why lamps of this type are well suited to the living room, bedroom or relaxation area.”

The circle as a choice for harmony

For us, light is more than just a function. It is a way of creating a unique interior that is functional, atmospheric and full of character. Round lamps enhance this effect wonderfully, softening the geometry and bringing order to the composition. This is precisely why they work so well in interior designs, combining aesthetics with a tangible impact on how the space is perceived.
