How do textures, fabrics and details create an atmosphere you can really feel?
Martyna Zawierucha
Interiors are more than just wall colours and furniture arrangements – above all, they are an experience. It’s sometimes hard to pinpoint why we feel at home in one place, yet cold and out of place in another. The answer often lies in the materials. Their texture, colour palette and the way they interact with light create an atmosphere that you simply feel.
Materials, accessories and details that matter
Imagine an interior where everything works in harmony: a soft armchair inviting you to relax, linen curtains gently filtering the light, and the pleasant softness of a rug beneath your feet. It’s not magic – it’s the result of carefully selected materials. In such an interior, every detail matters. The raw texture of a rough wooden worktop, matt ceramics, the softness of a cushion, the irregularity of stone – all these elements appeal to the senses, creating an atmosphere that can be both felt and seen. The backdrop is equally important – walls finished with microcement, travertine texture or wallpaper become a stage on which light, furniture and accessories create a cohesive whole.
Light that creates atmosphere
It is said, and with good reason, that light can create the ambience of an interior – or ruin it, if chosen poorly. It is light that brings out colours, softens lines and highlights textures. And when it subtly filters through the fabric of lampshades, it takes on a softer quality, becoming more welcoming and relaxing. That is why lamps with lampshades have enjoyed great popularity for years. The diffused light filtering through the lampshades showcases and emphasises the character of the fabrics, and, combined with other details, creates an interior that is not only cosy but also unique.
In collections such as Amarela and Santana, classic forms are combined with details in shades of gold and satiny chocolate. The lamps are distinguished by elegant fabrics with a distinctive texture and a thick weave. The Tutoia models are designed for those who love earthy tones and soft light – perfect for bedrooms or relaxation corners. They are finished in shades of brownish beige, and their lampshades curve gently downwards.
The Lago collections, on the other hand, come in shades of beige and grey. The pendant lights from these collections come with decorative cord-coloured holders – Ballerina (silk grey) and Acrobat (umbra grey) – which allow you to adjust the cord length. Both items are also available for purchase as separate products.
A distinctive feature of these models is the diffuser situated at the base of the lampshade, which subtly conceals the interior – including the fitting and bulb – whilst maintaining the lamp’s aesthetic appeal from every angle. At the same time, it diffuses the light, providing lighting that is easy on the eye.
Each of these lamps has been designed with understated elegance in mind: high-quality fabrics, distinctive diffusers and refined details mean they are perfectly suited to modern classic interiors, whilst in minimalist settings they will catch the eye as unique decorative accents.
How are they made?
At Nowodvorski Lighting, we know just how important the details are. That is why our lamps are crafted with a focus on quality – from the design right through to the finished product. The production process for lampshade models begins with the precise cutting of the fabric using a plotter. In the next stage, the wire that forms the lampshade’s frame is shaped. The ends of the frame are carefully welded, and the whole unit is sent to the powder coating facility, where it is given the chosen colour and appropriate finish. This ensures the lampshade has a durable, damage-resistant coating and retains its perfect appearance for many years to come. The lampshades themselves are not only carefully glued but also precisely stitched, which significantly increases their durability and resistance to everyday use.
Materials are the language of interiors. Through textures, colours and light, they tell a story – one of comfort, tranquillity and energy. Combining them thoughtfully allows you to create spaces that not only look good, but are also a pleasure to be in. If you’re looking for a simple way to add atmosphere to an interior – start with the light. A lamp with a fabric lampshade can make a bigger difference than you might think.
It is these elements that can determine whether a space becomes a stage for everyday life, where we feel comfortable and at ease. Because beautiful interiors are not just about style – they’re about the emotions that are stirred when we interact with a space.
